Dr. J. Uma Rao, a graduate in Commerce from the University of Calcutta, pursued her legal studies in Andhra University leading to the award of LL.B., LL.M and Ph.D. She was teaching law in All Saints College of Law, Visakhapatnam prior to accepting the present position. She also practiced as an advocate. Her areas of interest include Jurisprudence and Criminal Law.
